The New Chicago Handshake Slider
Written By Lance Avery - December 20 2023
A Chicago Handshake is slang for a shot of Jeppson's Malört paired with a back of Old Style Beer.
The New Chicago Handshake Slider is an Italian Beef slider with the 7 toppings to a Chicago hot dog, called Chicago Sauce

Two of the most iconic Chicago creations is the Italian Beef Sandwich & the Chicago Hot Dog. This recipe captures the best of both worlds, the tender shaved beef of a Italian Beef Sandwich and the flavorful combination of toppings of a classic Chicago Hot Dog. We're calling it the new Chicago handshake.
It consists of thinly sliced, seasoned, and slow-cooked beef, typically
sirloin or a similar cut, served on an Italian-style roll. The beef is cooked with Italian-inspired seasonings such as garlic and Italian herbs.
There's a huge timing saving tip with this recipe. We take raw shaved beef and add it to seasoned beef stock so instead of cooking large cuts of beef that takes hours, this recipe only takes a couple minutes to produce and the results are delicious.
Ingredients
1 cup beef stock
1 cube beef bouillon
½ t. Italian herbs
1 t. tomato paste
½ t. granulated garlic
¼ t. salt
black pepper, to taste
14 oz. shaved beef, raw
12 potato rolls, Hawaiian rolls, ciabatta rolls, or Italian rolls
-
1 bottle Chicago Sauce
Directions
In a medium sized pot bring heat together the stock with all the seasonings and bring to a boil.
Add the beef and continue to cook over medium heat until all the beef is cooked and the liquid is simmering again.
Portion out the beef on to each roll, then spoon over some of the broth over the beef. Pour Chicago Sauce over the top of the beef and serve.

Recipe Note
The beef can be cooked ahead of time and simply warmed in the broth over the stove or in the microwave.
